Ezz Monem – IAA 2021 Shortlisted Artist
These images have been created by Ezz Monem in response to the tenth anniversary of the Egyptian Revolution of 2011 during 18 days of protest in Cairo. These images have been revised from the artist’s archive and re-photographed.
An acid wash has erased parts of the emulsion from the film surface before the photograph is manually developed. The final results are located between re-photographs and deliberate erasures. Conceptually marking the passing of the revolution from a lived experience into the realm of a historical event.
Revolutionary Failure reflects a process of remembering the past whilst simultaneously attempting to forget historic events.
Ezz’s photographs will be displayed at this year’s Incinerator Art Award Exhibition, opening soon! To read more, visit https://bit.ly/IncineratorAA2021
